MEDICAL EMERGENCIES / RECOGNITION OF A CRITICALLY ILL PATIENT
Who should attend:
This course is for all medical staff who may need to assess a critically Ill patient.
Aim:
This course is designed to assist nurses, doctors and all medical staff to recognise the ‘at risk’ patient, to initiate simple treatment and to improve communication skills to facilitate further care.
Outcome:
By the end of the session you will be able to:
-Predict, Prevent, Treat and Communicate.
-Assess the critically ill patient by using the ABCDE Approach.
-Have an increased awareness of how to recognise, manage and treat appropriately and effectively patients who have signs of medical conditions :for example: epilepsy, asthma, hypo/hyperglycaemia, fainting, shock and stroke.
-Have an increased awareness and understanding of the causes of anaphylaxis, recognise the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and manage and administer appropriate treatment to patients suffering an anaphylactic reaction.
-Have an increased awareness of how to recognise, manage and treat appropriately patients who are choking.
-Demonstrate and practice the recovery position.
-Develop communication skills.
